I want a hero: an uncommon want,
When every year and month sends forth a new one,
Till, after cloying the gazettes with cant,
The age discovers he is not the true one.

Lord Byron, Don Juan, Canto the First

How do we imagine a hero for our own gay myths?

A guardian of justice and equality.

A fighter protecting, enhancing, and empowering gay male communities.

A champion of gay men's integrity--affirming our value as individuals and our right to live as gay men with gay men, creating gay identities as we conceive them.

A warrior forever on a Vision Quest.

A student seeking wisdom from Elders and Shamans.

A mentor imparting skills acquired from his experience to younger squires who wish to share his journey.

Accompany the Knight, the Wizard, and the Apprentice on their adventures.

Perform astounding feats, overcome powerful enemies, slay hideous monsters, complete arduous tasks, win stupendous victories, acquire abundant resources, forge lasting alliances, unravel cryptic riddles, and advance through higher and higher levels till we become the Heroes of Our Own Gay Myths.
